SIGNnow Sports focus on ball control to impress at World Futsal Championships

SIGNnow Sports will participate in its first official futsal tournament when they compete in the World Futsal Championships, which will be played at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from July 31 to August 3rd. The team of Davenport, that was formed in 2016 as an alternative to playing soccer during the offseason, is focused on improving their ball control to put on a good show in front of teams from across the entire planet.

“Coach Kyle Wilson came up to me and said, ‘your kids need to control the ball.’ I was surprised. I thought that we were good. We focused on ball mastery. Our philosophy of working hard and focusing on technique is our key”, said Mario Casamalhuapa, General Manager of the club.

At this moment SIGNnow Sports has 100 players in their futsal camp with children not just from Davenport, but also Celebration, Kissimmee and Orlando. At Disney, they will play in the Alevin category.

“We expect to learn and compete. This will be the first time SIGNnow Sports will be competing in a tournament such as this. Futsal is our tool, it helps us make us better by learning technique in a small space”, finished Casmalhuapa.

E2 Prodigy wants to put South Texas on the futsal map at The World Futsal Championships

E2 Prodigy of San Antonio wants to put the name of South Texas in the history of World Futsal Championships. They have 25 players as part of their six month futsal program and they will come to Disney at the end of July to compete in the Alevin and Infantil categories.

“The World Futsal Championships is the first big tournament E2 Prodigy will be a part of. We are excited and looking forward to the competition and the experience more than anything. We are preparing as best as possible to hopefully represent South Texas well” said Edward Estrada, Technical Director of the club.

More than just a focus on sports performance, E2 Prodigy promotes values such as passion, desire, perseverance and commitment to create team players as emphasized by Estrada.

Despite futsal becoming more well known in the USA, the majority of children still prefer soccer. However, the work of E2 Prodigy is promoting the potential of the futsal and demonstrating that these two sports are complementary.

“Given that many of our kids are focused on outdoor play, we hope this will allow them to see the benefits, style of play and technique from teams from all over the world in The World Futsal Championships. Being forced to make critical decisions in tight spaces will only expand their creativity, tranquility and composure on the ball. This sport only compliments outdoor play and we hope they are able to take these qualities outdoors to show their qualities” finished Estrada.

Girls from Bayside Pirates want to repeat the performance in Australia at The World Futsal Championships

The World Futsal Championships will welcome teams from all across the world. From Australia, at the end of July, will arrive the Bayside Pirates who will play the women’s tournament within the Cadete category. The girls qualified after winning the Craig Foster Tournament.

The girls didn’t just win that championship, played on the Gold Coast against other Australian teams, but dominanted the competition. They won all the eight matches played, scoring 42 goals and conceding just 7.

“We place a lot of emphasis on female futsal, as it is part of our Strategic Plan, and it is proving successful.  This is the first time that the club will be participating in The USA & The World Futsal Championships and we hope it will lead to further tours in the future. We are coming to play and we will do our very best to win it”, said Mark Georgeson, president of the club.

Beside the Cadete team, Bayside Pirates, founded in 2008 as primarily a junior futsal club, has senior men’s and women’s teams. The latter won the New Zealand Football’s National Women’s League in February. There are four volunteers working on the women’s side of the club.

The Cadete team will carry out a training camp before the World Futsal Championships, which will be played from July 31st to August 3rd at the ESPN World Wide Sports Complex within Walt Disney World Resort. Everything is being prepared, possibly, for another dominant performance!

From Bermuda to the world: CPAD seeks educational opportunities through futsal

Sport and education are two things that should work together to promote child development across world. One of the participants of World Futsal Championships, CP Athletic Development (CPAD), exists to provide educational opportunities through futsal.

With futsal as their primary training platform, the CPAD academy began in September 2014 with 11 members and today they have grown to 70. This is an amazing accomplishment with such a small population.

Peter Rickards, president of the team, said “We operate using the premise that success occurs when preparation meets opportunity. We have established a growing network of preparatory school and college scouts to arrange video or on-campus interviews. We also provide student assessments and references for overseas institutions. The key to supporting the educational development of our members is to create opportunities for travel to overseas tournaments where scouting contacts will be in attendance.”

One of these opportunities is the World Futsal Championships, a tournament held by USA Futsal that will be played from 31st July to 3rd August, at ESPN Worldwide of Sports, at Disney. It will be the organisation’s third participation, this time in the Alevin category.

“The event is a great way to make connections in the game of futsal and an excellent opportunity for our members to meet players from around the world. Coming from a small island like Bermuda we are not often able to compete against high quality opposition. Being able to travel to Florida and play against teams from all over the world is a wonderful experience for us,” commented the president.

Since 2014, 25 of CPAD members have gone on to schools in the USA, UK and Spain. They are ready to impress, one more time, in the World Futsal Championships.

Alianza brings latest generation of their futsal family to the World Futsal Championships

One of the debutants at the 2017 World Futsal Championships will be Alianza Futsal, from New York. However, the club has a long history. The club has been in existence since 2005 and is an example of a love for futsal passed from one generation to the next.

Sheila and Paulo Vieira founded Alianza after they saw many people had come from other countries who were accustomed to playing futsal but had nowhere to play on weekends. With the oversight of Paulo, the team won 32 championships around the New York area. For a while there was a female team as well but due to financial reasons they were only able to finance one squad.

The new generation of Alianza arrived when 8 year old Joel, the son of Sheila and Paulo, asked his parents if he could create his own team in the winter and where his father would act as coach. His parents agreed and so another triumphant story was created.

Their successes include winning the Futbolito MLS 4v4, NYCFC Cup 5v5, Theosmos Cup 5v5, the Univision Cup 5v5, the National Championship of the USA Futsal Federation in California, the Iinterleague 5v5 of New York and were semifinalist in the World Futsal Cup V.

"These boys have known each other since they were very young and now have such a connection that everywhere you see them you can feel they love for futsal and you can see the happiness in their faces,” said Sheila.

Now, the challenge is the upcoming World Futsal Championships at Disney. The tournament will be played from 31st July to 3rd August, in ESPN Wide World of Sports, at Disney. Alianza, which will compete in category cadete (2001/2002), is very excited to be competing in this prestigious championship with the possibilities on and out the court.

“We also participated in the World Futsal Cup V (another USA Futsal Tournament held in Spain) and it was the most amazing experience. Our kids faced FC Barcelona in the first match and learned a lot when they got to face players from Japan, Brazil and Spain, about their cultures and their different ways of playing futsal. We are very excited with the World Futsal Championships at Disney and we are happy to be able to go to a such high level of competition in United States for the first time and in a magical place,” concluded the founder of the club.

Chica’s Girls gives Queens' youth chance to shine in the World Futsal Championships

It’s not only boys that will show their skills and compete in the World Futsal Championships. The girls are ready to impress at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and one team from New York sees this tournament, which will take place between July 31st and August 3rd, as a great personal development experience.

Chica’s Girls, from Queens – NYC, is a non-profit organization founded in January for girls who aren’t fortunate to play for the big academies.

“Me and my husband asked ourselves: how can we help these young ladies achieve their dreams of making it to an academy and hopefully a great college?, Sports and women aren't as common as they should be. Our community does not offer soccer and futsal for girls within the ages 13 to 17, most teams are very far and others aren't affordable”, explained Leslie Calderon, founder of the club.

At Disney they will play in the Cadete category with a squad who plays together or against each other since the age of 8 and, as the founder revealed, is like a family.

“We want Chica’s Girls to be recognized for their talent and their values. As I mentioned earlier opportunities like these aren't offered to girls in our community and we want to not only expose ourselves, but also to let everyone including young girls know that anyone can make it if you put your minds to it, as long as there’s commitment and dedication. I really like this event as it is extremely organized and gives the girls the opportunity to meet and play against teams across the country,” said Leslie.

Currently Leslie and her husband fund all the club financial needs. They are searching for some fundraisers to help pay for tournament fees, uniforms and equipment, and also start a Go Fund Me campaign to help with their travel to Orlando. Here is the link if you want to donate

International Women’s Day – Soccer and Futsal play major role in Messner’s story

A female soccer player in United States is not extraordinary. In Brazil, however, the country known as the “Soccer Nation”, it is an uphill battle for women that grow up playing “the Beautiful Game”.

Larissa Messner was able to overcome many obstacles, and with the support of her friends and family, chose to pursue the sport of soccer throughout her youth. Now, some 15 years later, she is studying Sport Management and playing college soccer for Warner University in Florida.

As a Sophomore she is taking on another challenge having accepted a position to work for USA Futsal at the World Futsal Championships, which take place from July 31st to August 3rd at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

"What attracted me to the World Futsal Championship was working directly with children and futsal, two passions that I have. There will be over 100 teams from all over the world, children from all over the world with different cultures and religions, all competing against each other. It is wonderful to help create a tournament where the children can learn from each other’s culture and make new friends for a lifetime. This environment really makes the experience rewarding for me.” said the Brazilian Messner.

On the International Women’s Day, Larissa dreams for a better and more equal world and for this dream she will keep playing her part.

"Women are coming increasingly important in every field of work and this shows that we have the same capacity as men. People are beginning to see and understand this, especially in Brazil. It's still going to take a lot of time to end this prejudice, but even to see this small change, at least for me, means that I have more strength to keep fighting and show everything that we women are capable of achieving."
